While the prospect of physical improvement is exciting, it's also common to feel a little anxious when considering making a change through plastic surgery. We hope to ease some of those initial jitters by providing a preview of what you can anticipate through out your journey with Dr. Castillo and his staff, when you visit our plastic surgery offices in Champaign, Illinois.

Your Initial Consultation
Upon arriving to Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Center, you will be greeted by our warm, welcoming patient coordinator. You will be asked to fill out a short registration form. Our patient coordinator will serve as your personal liaison. She will assist you with scheduling future appointments with both Dr. Castillo and our skincare and laser specialist, and provide any information you may need about our practice.
A member of Dr. Castillo's clinical/surgical staff will escort you to a consultation room to collect your medical history, including a list of medications you take and any previous surgeries you may have had.
Your initial consultation with Dr. Castillo is all about discovering what you hope to achieve from your treatment or surgical experience. We encourage you to ask questions and share your desired goals, concerns, likes and dislikes.
This appointment is designed to provide you with a clear understanding of what you can expect from your cosmetic surgery experience. Our goal is to be as thorough and detailed as possible, so that you have the information you need to decide if cosmetic surgery is right for you.
After examining the areas you would like to enhance, Dr. Castillo will show you several before-and-after photos of cases he has performed that are similar the procedure you're interested in changing about yourself. He will present you with the best options for your desired outcome, discuss how to best prepare for your surgery, and give you an accurate idea of what you should expect during your recovery period.
Preoperative Visit
The week before surgery, you will return to our office for a preoperative appointment. You will first meet with one of our clinical/surgical team members so we can review your pre-op instructions, take your vitals, and complete your preoperative interview.
Dr. Castillo will then review your medical history, conduct a brief exam, listen to your heart and lungs, collect any necessary laboratory specimens, and issue prescriptions (if needed). A set of "before photos" will be taken at this time, as well.
Dr. Castillo will review the details of your surgery and confirm that our surgical plan is in line with your desires. He will then answer any remaining questions you may have.
It is our goal to make sure you feel fully prepared for your surgery and have a clear idea of what to expect during your recovery period. We encourage you to try to enjoy a quiet, relaxed evening the night before surgery, and to abstain from alcoholic beverages.
The Day of Your Surgery
When you choose to have your cosmetic surgery in our state-of-the-art surgical facility, you and your family will enjoy the convenience of a familiar, private facility — and on the day of your surgery, your surgical team will the same knowledgeable, caring staff members you already met during your consultation and pre-op visits.
Once you have checked in to our Champaign plastic surgery facility, one of the members of our surgical team will greet and escort you to a private room.
A locker is available to stow your clothing and personal items. You will be asked to change into a surgical gown, and you may be asked to leave a urine specimen. You will meet with Dr. Castillo and with the anesthetist. A mild sedative may be administered while you are in the pre-anesthesia area.
Once Dr. Castillo has made any necessary surgical markings, you will be escorted to the operating room, where Dr. Castillo and his surgical staff will administer the appropriate anesthesia. Your surgical procedure will then begin.
Your Recovery
When the surgery has been completed, you will spend 1 to 3 hours in our recovery area. Specially designed recliners, warm blankets, and the caring attention of our specially trained recovery staff member will help to ease your transition from surgery.
During your stay in our recovery area, your personal recovery specialist will routinely monitor your vital signs to ensure your safety and comfort.
Before leaving the facility, our recovery specialist will give you a detailed explanation of your post-surgical instructions, what to expect during your recovery, and how best to contact us. In addition, you'll be given written copies of this information, including our telephone numbers, where we are reachable 24 hours a day. Please call us at any time if you are concerned and need to be reassured.
When your condition has stabilized, you will be permitted to return home. You must be accompanied by a responsible adult. It is advised that a companion remain with you for the first 24 hours.
Later that same evening, Dr. Castillo will call you to check on your condition and answer any questions you may have. We consider serving our patients to be a privilege and are always available to assist you — before, during, and after your surgery.
Postoperative Follow-up Visits
In the days that follow your procedure, Dr. Castillo will want to examine the surgical area and ensure that you are recovering nicely. He will answer any questions you may have at that time and give you further directives for returning to normal day-to-day things as your recovery progresses, such as exercise and activity levels.
An appointment schedule will be set for you to return to our office for postoperative check-ups, with intervals between visits depending on the surgery you have chosen.
